In line with Westshore Speedway’s closure, a Vancouver (Canada) non-profit organization is developing an RV campground, motorsports park, and other facilities.
According to a report, the Vancouver Island Safe Speed Association was founded by long-time members of the motorsports community in the region. It was formed to lead the way in ensuring that motorsports have a place on the Island.
On top of the 2,400 parking spaces and a campground for RVs, the plans also include the construction of a spectator grandstand.
However, before discussing what the actual facility will be like, the group must find a suitable location and then modify the concept to the site.
Association President Steve Copp said the group hopes to build an additional facility in the West Shore, and several possible locations are being considered.
Copp added that the City of Langford has been extremely helpful, earmarking CA$2.5 million to any non-profit group that proves that it can build and run a motorsports facility in the long run.
The funding was provided by Strand Properties Corp. and Bastion Development Corp., who are the current owners of Westshore Speedway that has been previously known as Western Speedway.
The plan is to agree on a location and sign a deal by next fall.
