The Northwest Territories government awarded Fred Henne Park’s (Canada) operations team as Park Operator of the Year, recognizing the team’s hard work and effort for this year.
According to a report, the Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) Department of Industry, Tourism, and Investment (ITI) received numerous comments from campers about how the Fred Henne Territorial Campground operates a clean, safe, active campsite, offering guests of all ages many events and activities.
Park operators Lisa Tesar and Lona Collins, who have been with Fred Henne for 12 years, have established thematic and cultural programs for visitors.
“We’re very excited, very pleased,” said Tesar on winning the award.
As long-time Northerners, they provide campers the chance to connect in conversation with the local indigenous elders through storytelling and workshops on traditional crafts such as sewing, jewelry making, and beading. They offer voyageurs canoe rides on certain days and activities for kids like bird watching and other interactive nature excursions.
With over 20 team members and additional special event staff, Tesar and Collins, through Bottomline Events, have fostered an active summer community in the park.
