A thorough investigation is ongoing after an accident at a Creston campground where a four-year-old died, a report said.

Creston Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) frontline personnel and British Columbia Ambulance received a report about a child who was not responding at a campground east of Creston on August 30th, shortly after 6 p.m.

The child was in severe medical distress when the members arrived. First aid was administered and the child was taken to Calgary Children’s Hospital via BC Air Ambulance.

BC RCMP reports that the child died on September 2 from injuries sustained in an accident.

In partnership with Creston RCMP, the Southeast District Major Crime Unit continues its investigation.

“This is a terrible situation that affects many people in our community, including families, first responders and medical personnel,” stated Sgt. Chris Manseau is the RCMP Division Media Relations officer.

“This investigation is still in its preliminary stages and many tasks are being completed. This investigation will involve many agencies, including the BC Coroners Service.”

A parallel fact-finding investigation is being conducted by the BC Coroners Service into this untimely death.

The RCMP, the BC Coroners Service, and other agencies have no additional information.

Investigators request witnesses to call the Southeast District Major Crime Unit tipline at 1-877-987-8477, or Creston RCMP.
