Campgrounds to Give Thanks, Support Care Camps During Canadian Camping Appreciation Weekend

How do campground owners say “thank you”? In Canada, park operators will express their gratitude by giving back to Care Camps while also organizing three days of fun activities and must-grab discounts during the 2022 Canadian Camping Appreciation Weekend happening September 9 through 11.

Because gratitude is the ideal attitude, Canadian campers will be treated to three days of celebration in the spirit of gratefulness as campgrounds together mark the event.

Parks from The Prairies to Atlantic Canada, and every province in between are invited to join the commemoration by organizing different activities and offering discounts throughout the weekend.

The annual national celebration is organized by the Canadian Camping & RV Council, the country’s national campground association, as an avenue for its member parks to say “thank you” to its supporters.

“[It] allows our campground members to, kind of, express appreciation to guests who visited them throughout the season and invite them back for celebrations and some discounts and things as a way to kind of say ‘thank you,’” CCRVC Member Services Coordinator Cara Ciszmadia told Modern Campground in a Zoom interview.

It also serves as an opportunity to promote camping in September, a month Csizmadia said that typically sees camping slow down due to children going back to school.

“So, you know, it’s a great way for them to get more folks in the door in that shoulder part of the season here,” she said.

“I would say the benefit to your park—as a campground owner—to expand season exposure on a promotion basis like this is really valuable,” the association’s member services coordinator later on noted.

Celebrations vary per campground, with some opting to do discounts on accommodations, while others host chili cook-offs. Some campgrounds also take advantage of the opportunity to help raise funds for Care Camps through individual fundraisers.

“So it’s really flexible for parks. I think it’s a great way for them to showcase whatever their strengths might be for this celebration and then also obviously support Care Camps across Canada and the great work that those guys do,” Csizmadia said.

As of the time of writing, over 400 campgrounds, mostly located in Quebec, have registered for the event. To mark the occasion, most parks in the region offer a two-nights-for-$60 promo.

“I think Quebec’s strategy has been really successful so far. Hopefully, we can grow it that way across the country,” said Csizmadia.

In British Columbia, BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association (BCLCA) Executive Director Joss Penny expressed in a previous interview with Modern Campground that while BC only has a few participating parks, the group is “hopeful that a lot of people will take up the challenge to say thank you.”

Member parks can register to be part of the 2022 Canadian Camping Appreciation Weekend until September 9. Those who will register as early as now can benefit from the exposure that CCRVC will provide.

Upon signing up, campgrounds will receive a resources kit with pieces of information they can print out or share across their social media to spread awareness about the event.
