British Columbia RV Park Accused Of Not Giving Refunds During Wildfires

A Mara RV Park is being accused of not paying a refund to a person who canceled their reservation due to wildfires in the Okanagan, a report said.

According to the report, they were also told by an individual that he too had been placed out at Whispering Pines Mara Lake campground. “They refuse to refund anyone. This is becoming a big problem, I don’t want to go but feel forced to,” he said.

Whispering Pines RV Camp and Tent has a policy in place regarding wildfires, cancellations, and evacuations. It is based upon evacuation orders and/or alerts.

Barry Burko, the owner of Whispering Pines, stated that “we’re telling our clients that if there is an evacuation order or alert people will get a 100% refund.”

The campground is currently not subject to any evacuation orders or alerts.

Burko states that if someone doesn’t feel at home in the campground, the policy will still apply.

He said, however, that if we are able to re-sell all of their bookings then we will return any we can to the client.

Burkos said that the campground was still full and that people are enjoying Whispering Pines.
