BREAKING NEWS: Massive Fire Engulfs Abbotsford RV Facility

Hundreds of RVs and vehicles are in flames as a huge fire erupted at an Abbotsford RV dealership amid flooding. The fire is taking over a lot near Sumas Mountain Road and North Parallel Road.

Several rows of recreational vehicles parked very close to each other have been caught in the blaze.

Extinguishing the fire is a challenge for authorities as the access roads leading to the RV facility are currently flooded due to the recent rainstorms that ravaged the region. The flames are also under high-voltage power lines, raising the risk.

About 40 crew members from the fire department are fighting to control the fire.

The cause of the fire and whether there are casualties are still unknown as of the time of writing. Authorities have advised nearby residents to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed as smoke from the burning facility could be harmful.

The mishap could most likely impact next year’s RV European business as it’s part of their rental fleet. According to Joss Penny, executive director of the British Columbia Lodging & Campgrounds Association (BCLCA), the majority of the European inventory pull from the Abbotsford facility.

The flames enveloping the facility are happening in the Sumas Prairie, a region that has been affected by recent flooding. British Columbia’s City of Abbotsford has ordered an evacuation the night before, asking residents in the prairie to vacate immediately as a forecast suggests “catastrophic” flooding. However, about 300 residents have decided to stay, Mayor Henry Braun said at a late-night news conference.
